The Aquarium (1872~1987) with its very decorative clock-tower (demolished c. 1927) looks like a complete hotch-potch of buildings, although it was custom built. There are not very many people on the beach but there are some bathing machines at the water's edge. The Volks Electric Railway (opened 1883) is oposite the Aquarium and is bedecked with flags.
