Information -  Construction of this important railway bridge was commenced in 1879 with the aim of joining Brittany to Normandy. It stood 32 metres above the River Rance, and was 96 metres between the tower supports weighing about 1000 tonnes. It was the target of the R.A.F. in 1944 to stop the German advance. Unfortunately the bridge suffered very little damage in this raid. The German Army itself finished the job on their retreat to the Fatherland. They blew it up.
The new bridge is a slender arched structure built onto the original stone supports.
