Further InformationFrom 1931 till 1939 this large ship took passengers from Europe to Canada. On the 28th October, 1940 she was attacked by a German bomber, and damaged. A submarine returned later and finished her off. She sank in about about 500 feet of water, and at 42500 grt she was the heaviest single casualty of submarine activity in WW2. Most of the passengers and crew were rescued.
