Further Information - The CANTON was built on the Clyde by Alexander Stephen & Sons, and went into service in 1939 just in time for WW2 to get under way. She was requisioned by the Government as an armed Merchant Cruiser and fitted with external guns. After the war she was refitted in Capetown, and returned to P & O in 1947. She worked until 1962 and was broken-up in Hong Kong. 16000 grt - shown here with the P. & O. official black hull.
