Further Information: Known the world over, it is one of France's most famous sights. Since the 8th century it has been, at various times, a fortress, religious centre, gaol, and a tourist attraction with its own train station. This postcard shows the steam train leaving Mont St Michel on a summer evening to cross the causeway back to the Mainland. A man in shirt sleeves appears to be running across the causeway. The train service ceased a long time ago - not sure when.
