Location - New York International Airport - Idlewild Airport at Jamaica, New York
Date: As it was opened in 1948 and there are no more than a few dozen cars in the parking field I would date the card to around 1950
Size in mm (approx): - 140 x 88
Publisher: Manhattan Postcard Publishing Co Inc. 913 Broadway, N.Y.C. N.Y - Plastichrome by Colourpicture Publishers Inc, Boston 15, Mass U.S.A.
Used: An 8 cent red USA stamp with an aircraft flying past the Capitol Building - Cancelled JAMAICA N.Y.5 - AUG 31 1963. The postage was underpaid, and the card also carries four additional handstamps reclaiming the 18 cents underpaid. Addressed to Miss Martin, Rookwood Drive, Longmeadow, Stevenage, England
Condition: Excellent - sharp corners with a light impression of the square green handstamp on the front. Only visible when held to light.
Further Information: President Kennedy was assassinated 22 Nov 1963, and Idlewild was renamed John F Kennedy International Airport on 24 Dec 1963. I note a Boeing Stratocruiser and a few Lockheed Constellations on the ground.
