Further Information - SIR HIRAM MAXIM'S CAPTIVE FLYING MACHINE (behind the CHUTE) to give it its full title was aimed at giving the public an experience of flying - one of his own obsessions. It was a great success for many decades and has modern counterparts in many fairgrounds today. The WATER CHUTE was opened in 1903, but didn't last as long as the Flying Machine. One of the Chute boats is seen just at the bottom of the Chute.
