Location - THE
HUMBER BRIDGE - A nice view of the
suspension bridge over the River Humber which joins
Barton-on-Humber, North Lincolnshire (this side) to Hessle, East
Yorkshire. This photo taken about 1980, looking hardly much
different to today, except for the two cranes on each pylon. It was
the largest of its kind when completed, but now (2017) it has fallen
way behind that. Side to side, it is 2200 metres, with the centre
span of 1410 metres. Its height above the river is 155 metres and it
carries two lanes of expressway in each direction. It is a toll
bridge, with its nearest city - Hull, just a few miles away. |
