Description - The Monnow Bridge, Monmouth, South Wales - Welsh name - Pont Trefynwy. The bridge was completed in the late 13th Century, and is the only fortified bridge in Britain with its gate tower remaining intact. Made of red sandstone, and standing across the River Monnow, it is now a 'pedestrians only' bridge
