More Info: -  A dark, excellent quality black and white image of a boat loading/unloading sacks - probably cockles & mussels. Parkgate is on the South West side of the Wirral on the tidal estuary of the River Dee. As of today (2017) a view from the same vantage point would show mainly grass salt marshes with just the odd small rivulet in view. The whole estuary has been gradually silting up since Roman times, but it is still useable in this image of nearly a century ago. The water only arrives on rare occasions nowadays, like the seasonal high tides which can bring the water up to the sea wall, thus drawing in the visitors.
